The Green party of BC now has the area covered for the May 9 provincial election.
Alex Pope will run for the party in Maple Ridge-Pitt Meadows, after being acclaimed by the party on Friday.
In the 2013 election, Pope ran for the Greens in Maple Ridge-Mission. He's also previously run for Maple Ridge city council.
"The B.C. Greens give people someone to vote for, rather than against," Pope said.
Many people are frustrated with the Liberals and don't want to vote for the NDP, he added.
Transportation and transit and education are his top concerns.
"Transportation is always a huge challenge out here," said Pope a commuter cyclist who's a computer programer.
He said he was shocked when TransLink opened the Evergeen SkyTrain line in December in Coquitlam without having an express B-line service ready to connect from Maple Ridge to Coquitlam.
TransLink recently told Maple Ridge council that the buses for the new service haven't been ordered yet, although the service is supposed to begin by 2019.
Pope also questions the long-term viability of the West Coast Express commuter rail from Mission to Vancouver, which uses CP Railway tracks.
"I think expanding the West Coast Express could be an expensive route to go because we don't own the rail lines."
MP Dan Ruimy recently said the same thing.
Instead, Pope favours a light rail system. That will take years, but at least the conversation should be started, he added.
He said the B.C. Liberals have shown the costs of building highways and bridges, saying that the Golden Ears Bridge and the Port Mann Bridge have shortfalls in toll revenues.
Now, the government is proposing the same for the new Massey bridge, he added.
Education, is also a concern.
"The B.C. Liberals seem to have declared war on our education system."
