Ridge Meadows Search and Rescue responded Sunday night to call of a boater in distress at Alouette Lake in Golden Ears Provincial Park.

The motorboat, with two men and a child, was on its way from the north end of the lake to the main dock, when it had a mechanical break down. A text was sent to those on shore who alerted Ridge Meadows RCMP.

Search and rescue got to the lake at about 9:40 p.m., but it took until after midnight to tow the boat back to the main dock at Alouette Lake, said Rick Laing, search and rescue manager.

The rescue boat then went back up to the top of the lake to make sure the other campers were OK.

Earlier Sunday, Alouette Parks shared that Golden Ears park was closed to day-use and boat launch traffic.

“All parking lots are full. We expect to re-open around 4 p.m.,” says a Tweet.

Temperatures during the day reached 32.3 C at Pitt Meadows Regional Airport, according to Environment Canada.
