A popular Maple Ridge intersection is about to get a bit of a makeover as the city announced on Tuesday that 224 Street and 124 Avenue will transition from a four-way stop to a light-controlled intersection.

Project manager Jason Bomans explained that switching to a fully signalized intersection will help enhance pedestrian amenities and better match urban standards.

“This intersection is being updated to reflect the current and future growth planned for the city’s town centre area,” said Bomans.

“Part of the modifications will include changes to the contours of the intersection to create bulb-outs to support better site lines for both drivers and pedestrians and reduce the crossing distance for pedestrians.”

In order to make these changes, parking in the surrounding areas will be impacted until the work is completed, which is expected to be sometime this fall.

During the improvement process, the four-way stop will continue to be enforced, with traffic control personnel occasionally being on site.

The city is advising residents to follow all posted signage and use alternate routes if possible until the work is completed.
