Car crash knocks out power in Maple Ridge

B.C. Ambulance took the driver to hospital.

A man was taken to hospital after being trapped inside his car following a collision with a power pole Monday night.

This crash occurred around 10:30 p.m. at Laity Street and Thornton Avenue.

The driver, reportedly a 60-year-old man, was forced to stay in his car for over an hour until a B.C. Hydro crew arrived and shut off power.

Emergency crews were also forced to stand by until the power was off. It wasn't restored in the area until 1:30 a.m.

B.C. Ambulance took the driver to hospital.

"There is no known reason noted as being the cause of the crash. It is also unknown how badly injured the driver was," according to Ridge Meadows RCMP.

The Maple Ridge fire department also assisted.
