Residents of Pitt Meadows and Maple Ridge have the opportunity to help shape what the future aquatics facility in Pitt Meadows will look like, as the city opened up its second survey on Friday.
This comes a few weeks after the city closed its first survey, which provided several key insights into what locals are looking for in a new pool.
According to the first aquatics feasibility survey, locals are most interested in having a lane pool, with 44 per cent of respondents identifying this as the most important amenity in a future pool in Pitt Meadows. Having a beach entry and a lazy river were the other two most important features, landing on the top-requested list for 33 and 32 per cent of the respondents, respectively.
As far as what opportunities they would like the future pool to have, 63 per cent of locals identified family swim times as the top one, closely followed by swimming lessons at 60 per cent.

When it comes to what they’re willing to pay for, 66 per cent of survey takers said that they would want a large facility with multiple pools and leisure amenities in exchange for an increase in property taxes.
However, this second survey now aims to find out exactly how much of a property tax increase locals would be willing to stomach for a new aquatics centre.
As part of this new survey, locals are presented with four possible scenarios as to what the future facility might look like and the associated property tax increase for each model.
The first option is a small outdoor pool at Harris Road Park, which is estimated to cost just over $19 million and would lead to a tax increase of approximately $138 per year for the average single-family home.
The second option is also at Harris Road Park, but is a medium-sized outdoor pool. This model is estimated to cost $22.3 million, which would lead to a $157 per year tax increase.
The third option would move the future pool to the Pitt Meadows Athletic Park and would make it a small indoor pool. This would cost approximately $39 million and would result in an annual tax increase of $451.
The fourth option would be a medium-sized indoor pool at the Pitt Meadows Athletic Park, which could cost $41.7 million and lead to a tax increase of $466 per year.
