A snowfall alert has been issued by Environment Canada for Metro Vancouver including Maple Ridge and Pitt Meadows.
Between one and five centimetres is expected to accumulate on local roads due to falling temperatures and incoming moisture.
Snow removal operations will be taking place by Mainroad on all highways in the Lower Mainland until the weather system has passed and roadways are back to normal.
The cold air is expected to persist into the latter half of next week and Environment Canada warns temperatures are going to be 5 to 10 degrees below the seasonal average, “making for the coldest conditions so far this season.”
In addition to the cold temperatures, winds will create blustery conditions in exposed areas near the mainland inlets.
Howe Sound is expected to get up to 10 cm of snow.
A cold with snow warning applies to the following areas:
• City of Vancouver - including Burnaby and New Westminster
• Metro Vancouver - northeast including Coquitlam and Maple Ridge
• Metro Vancouver - southeast including Surrey and Langley
• Metro Vancouver - southwest including Richmond and Delta
• North Shore - including West Vancouver and North Vancouver
