Convict costume a dead give way

Driver who crashed SUV had been drinking, but was not legally impaired.

A man dressed like a convict was quickly found by police when he ditched the car he was driving following a crash in Maple Ridge on Saturday.

The man was driving a black SUV, but lost control of it on 105 Avenue, just north of Lougheed Highway.

Police said he received minor injuries, but tried to run away when he heard the police were arriving.

The man was dressed  in a black and white striped costume and witnesses easily directed officers to him.

Police said the man had been drinking, but was not legally impaired.

The call was one of 74 received by Ridge Meadows RCMP on Saturday. Most were noise related.

Remember fireworks are prohibited by law in both Maple Ridge and Pitt Meadows.

This includes having possession, buying or selling, or setting off fireworks. Mounties will have extra officers patrolling streets on Halloween.
