The Maple Ridge-Pitt Meadows School District class size report for 2016, shows that there are 68 classes in the district that exceed 30 students. That is up slightly from 62 last year.

Of those, 26 classes are music, band, choir, planning 10, leadership and drama, which are not subject to the 30-student limit. However, teachers in the remaining 42 classes qualify for additional compensation because of the extra number of students.

The district average class size in Maple Ridge-Pitt Meadows rose from 25.8 to 25.9 in Grades 8-12, and from 26.7 to 26.9, in Grades 4-7.

Class sizes for Grades 1-3 dropped from 22.2 to 22 on average, and kindergarten was steady at 19.9. Based on numbers from five years ago, average classes sizes are up by 1.4 students or more across all grades.
