Veteran Pitt Meadows Coun. Janis Elkerton will be supporting John Becker for mayor in the upcoming civic election.

She is the second incumbent to endorse Becker, a lawyer and former city councillor who is seeking to replace Mayor Deb Walters, as she will not be vying for a second term.

Coun. David Murray announced his support for Becker last week.

“I have full confidence in John and his ability to lead the city for the next four years” said Elkerton. “He has the necessary business, educational and political experience for the job.”

During the 2011 election, Elkerton supported Walters over Becker, but now believes he is the one with solutions.

“I have worked with John on council before and even though we disagreed from time to time, there was respect for differing opinions,” she added.

She believes Becker understands what is required when dealing with revenues and expenses at city hall, as well as the fiscal prudence to make sure tax dollars are not wasted.

Michael Hayes, a software analyst and current president of the Pitt Meadows Community Foundation, is also running for mayor.
