Employee at Maple Ridge video game store assaulted

An employee at a video game store in Maple Ridge was pepper-sprayed and pushed by a pair of suspects Monday.

Ridge Meadows RCMP were called to the store in Haney Place Mall just before 5 p.m.

According to police, a female suspect walked into the store and pepper-sprayed the employee.

The suspect then ran out, with the employee in pursuit.

A male, believed to be associated to the female suspect, pushed the employee out of the way, allowing both to escape.

The pair were seen riding away on bicycles towards Walmart, at the west end of the mall.

The employee was treated at scene for exposure to pepper-spray, said Sgt. Brenda Gresiuk.

“Police are actively investigating and it’s too soon to determine a motive behind this senseless crime," she added.

"Investigators are reviewing surveillance video to aid in suspect identification. Anyone with any information is asked to call police.”

The female suspect is Caucasian, 30 to 35 years old , 5'5" with a medium to heavy build.

The male suspect is Caucasian, 30 to 35 years old, 5'11" with a thin build.

Both wore winter jackets with hoods that were covering their heads.
