One person was taken to the hospital after a house fire in Maple Ridge on Tuesday evening.

Maple Ridge Fire and Rescue received the call at around 11:14 p.m. Oct. 29, at a property by where Eagle Avenue turns into 122 Avenue, just off of 231 Street.

When firefighters arrived on scene they discovered smoke coming from the garage of the house.

There were eight fire trucks on scene.

Everybody was out of the house when firefighters arrived, said deputy chief Geoff Spriggs.

"Two people were outside confirming everybody was out," said Spriggs, but he didn't know how many people lived in the house.

BCEHS confirmed the fire was in the 23000-block of Eagle Avenue. One ambulance with primary care paramedics responded and paramedics provided emergency medical treatment to one patient who was then transported to hospital.

Although the investigation into the cause of the fire is ongoing, Spriggs said it is not considered suspicious and is most likely an electrical fire.

Firefighters were on scene for about two and a half hours.
