Grad dress, tuxedo donations sought

Donations of used dresses and tuxedos sought to help ease the cost of graduation for those who can't afford

Graduating from school these days isn’t cheap, but a plan put in place by Maple Ridge social service agencies is trying to make it a bit easier.

Putting on the Glitz tries to match donated grad dresses, tuxedos or suits, most of them used only once, with students who can’t afford the cost of new formal attire.

By getting the dresses or suits, students will be able to attend one of the biggest nights of their lives: grad night.

Putting on the Glitz, when students who’ve been referred to the program can try on the clothes and take them home if they fit, takes place March 5 at Maple Ridge secondary.

However, recent grads who want to sell their dresses, also can leave their dresses for consignment for a two-day sale, Jan. 26, 27 at the Greg Moore Youth Centre from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.

• Consignment dresses can be delivered to Yvonne Murray at Thomas Haney secondary at 604-463-2001.

• Anyone who’d like to donate a dress, can contact Michelle Cherak at 604-476-2821 or by e-mail: mcherak@plea.bc.ca.
