Latif Tata pleaded guilty to several counts of sexual interference and sexual assault in Port Coquitlam Provincial Court on Wednesday.

A Maple Ridge man accused of molesting children who attended his wife’s daycare has pleaded guilty to a several charges.

Latif Hamad Tata faces four counts each of sexual interference of a person under 16, invitation to sexual touching and sexual assault.

He entered pleas to all 12 charges in Port Coquitlam Provincial Court on Wednesday.

His lawyer, John Cheevers, did not return a call to comment on the reasons behind Tata’s plea.

Neither did Crown Counsel.

Tata has been in custody since he was arrested in December.

His wife ran Shining Stars Daycare on 122nd Avenue until the allegations against her husband surfaced.

The business should not be confused with Shining Stars Montessori Daycare and Preschool in east Maple Ridge.

Police allege the young victims were assaulted while at the Tata daycare, which was run out of the basement in the family home.

The daycare has since closed and the house has been sold.

Tata is scheduled to return to Port Coquitlam Provincial Court in June to fix a date for a sentencing hearing.
