A high-risk sex offender was arrested Tuesday in downtown Maple Ridge.
William James Brookshaw, 42, was taken into custody without incident at around 5 p.m., and did not attempt to flee or resist arrest, according to Ridge Meadows RCMP. The Ridge Meadows detachment received multiple tips from citizens about Brookshaw’s presence in the community. He has several distinguishing tattoos.
Brookshaw was wanted for being unlawfully at large and was held for a sheriff’s escort.
He had been serving a sentence of two and a half years for breaking and entering to commit assault from an attack on a woman.
A Canada-wide warrant had been issued after he failed to return to his Vancouver halfway house Monday night.
