The Integrated Homicide Investigation Team (IHIT) is investigating an assault in Abbotsford that resulted in the death of a 19-year-old man.

A press release from IHIT on Tuesday afternoon (Feb. 4) states that the Abbbotsford Police Department responded on Jan. 27 to the 2900 block of Victoria Street after witnesses reported a man being assaulted and then taken away in a vehicle.

The victim was located about three hours later in the Crescent Beach area of Surrey, the release states. The man had severe injuries and was taken to hospital, but died five days later – on Saturday, Feb. 1.

“The victim had his whole life ahead of him and, sadly, his family is now left in grief with many unanswered questions,” said Sgt. Freda Fong of IHIT.

“You can expect investigators to be in the area canvassing for video evidence. A number of witness interviews are underway in an effort to determine the motivation behind the attack.”

Fong said the incident appears to be targeted, and there is no ongoing risk to the public.

No further details have been released.

Anyone with information is asked to call the IHIT information line at 1-877-551-IHIT (4448) or email ihitinfo@rcmp-grc.gc.ca.
