Another house fire temporarily displaced a family in Newton on Saturday afternoon.

The first, on Friday morning near 68th Avenue and 140th Street, is the subject of an arson investigation.

Around 4 p.m. Saturday, Surrey Fire was called on scene after report of a house fire at the 6800 block of 142nd Street in Newton. Surrey RCMP Corporal Scotty Schumann said the cause is believed to have been electrical.

“It doesn’t appear suspicious but once the expert gets in there and takes a look it could change,” he told the Now-Leader.

Crews arrived to find heavy smoke billowing from a ground level suite.

There are no reports on injuries at this time. According to witnesses at the scene, it appears as if all of the occupants of the home made it out safely. Ambulances were on scene.

A witness at the scene also said that all occupants may be displaced from the home. Numerous Surrey RCMP officers were at the home and crime scene tape was put up around the property.

This is the second fire in the area within the last couple of days. On Friday morning, a house fire in Newton displaced a family of seven after Flames grew large enough to burn holes in the roof.
