RCMP and the Integrated Homicide Investigation Team are investigating after human remains were found on the Florence Lake Service Road near Stave Lake.

Police were called to the area after a father who was in the area with his three children reported finding human remains.

The road is used often by outdoor enthusiasts, and police are calling for anyone who was in the area Tuesday afternoon with information to contact investigators.

The RCMP has handed over the case to the Integrated Homicide Investigation Team, which is calling the case a suspicious death.

A spokesperson said in a statement its investigators would be in the area for “some time” gathering evidence.

IHIT is working with Mounties, the coroner and forensic teams to identify the victim and figure out what led to the death, said Sgt. Stephanie Ashton.

Mounties say they are also beefing up efforts to patrol the area around Stave Lake.

Anyone with information is asked to contact IHIT at 1-877-551-4448 or ihitinfo@rcmp-grc.gc.ca
