Stolen mail from across B.C. recovered after arrest in Langford

Two men in their 20’s from Burnaby and Maple Ridge face multiple criminal charges.

Several hundred pieces of stolen mail from across the province were recovered after an arrest in Langford.

Two men were found in possession of the stolen mail, break-in instruments and substances believed to be drugs.

A 29-year-old man from Burnaby and a 28-year-old man from Maple Ridge are subject to multiple criminal charges as this matter remain under investigation according to West Shore RCMP Const. Alex Bérubé.

West Shore RCMP responded to a suspicious vehicle parked in the 3100-block of Jacklin Rd. in Langford on May 27. Two men were inside a rented 2017 black Mercedes-Benz and were taken into custody after evidence of controlled substances was gathered from the vehicle.

A search after the arrest led officers to the break-in equipment and mail stolen from multiple locations including Greater Victoria, the Lower Mainland and the B.C. interior.

As police were conducting a separate investigation into a mailbox robbery on Peatt Road in Langford, video surveillance footage showed what is believed to be the same vehicle and one of the men prying open a community mail box and stealing the contents inside an apartment complex.

“Super boxes and apartment boxes are more of a target than individual mailboxes for mail theft. Don’t let mail build up in your mailbox,” Bérubé noted.

The West Shore RCMP is working closely with other investigators as well as Canada Post to ensure the mail is directed back to its intended recipients.
