The elderly man with dementia, who went missing Tuesday, was located safely.
On Feb. 15, an old man, who was last seen at his Whonnock residence at about 11 a.m., hadn’t returned home by afternoon. This was out of character for the 77-year-old. The Air 1 police helicopter was then seen hovering over Whonnock.
A police dog and volunteer search and rescue members combed through the streets, properties, and backwoods in the rural Maple Ridge neighbourhood.
The RCMP then called on on the public for help to find a missing elderly man with dementia.
Police said they needed the community’s help to locate the missing man, who was last seen in the area of 278th Street and 112th Avenue, added RCMP Cpl. Julie Klaussner.
He left his home in the late morning to collect firewood in a large forested area nearby, she explained.
His family grew increasingly concerned when he did not return, and about 3 p.m. called for help.
“He suffers from dementia and his family has grown concerned, as it is out of character for him not to return to his residence,” Klaussner said.
The RCMP confirmed Wednesday that the elderly man was safely located.
