The Integrated Homicide Investigation Team (IHIT) has confirmed that the weapon seized from Angus David Mitchell, was used both in the double murder at a Burnaby sushi restaurant and in the attempted murder of his former landlord.
Mitchell, 26, died Wednesday following a shootout with police. He had been the subject of a provincewide manhunt as the prime suspect in the Tuesday shooting of a 51-year-old Burnaby man in front of his Gilpin Crescent house, and the murder of two people at Royal Oak Sushi House.
The woman killed at the restaurant May 27 was identified as 34-year-old Chinh (Vivian) Diem Huynh, an employee at the restaurant and a single mother to a young daughter. Also killed in the incident was the restaurant's owner, Huong (Andy) Tran.
"While these details certainly suggest Mitchell was the shooter in both Burnaby cases, it does not mean the investigations are concluded," said IHIT spokesperson Sgt. Jennifer Pound in a press release.
"IHIT investigators will continue to work long hours to ensure they have collected as much relevant evidence as possible. Only when all of the evidence has been collected will IHIT comment on the identity of the shooter in the double homicide. No motive has yet been established for this tragic event."
