Re-elected MP Randy Kamp has been reappointed parliamentary secretary to the fisheries minister, for the third term.

As a result, the Pitt Meadows-Maple Ridge-Mission MP will be the main political contact on the West Coast for Fisheries and Oceans Canada, now run by New Brunswick MP Keith Ashfield.

As well, Kamp was named parliamentary secretary to Asia Pacific Gateway Minister Ed Fast, an Abbotsford MP.

“I am pleased to serve in this expanded role as I work with Minister Ashfield in Fisheries and Oceans and Minister Fast on the Asia Pacific Gateway,” Kamp said in a news release. He expects Ashfield to have a fresh approach as fisheries minister.

“We are all ready for a productive session of Parliament.”

“It’s an honour to be asked to also work with Minister Fast on the Asia Pacific Gateway portfolio,” said Kamp.

“This is a new role for me and I look forward to the challenge.”

Kamp goes to Ottawa for new session of the House of Commons starting June 2, with a budget being introduced June 6.

“There are a number of issues that need to be addressed right away,” said Kamp.

“Obviously, the focus of the coming session will be on the economy and passing the budget.  I have confidence that Prime Minister Stephen Harper and Finance Minister Jim Flaherty will stay the course with a prudent, low-tax plan for Canadian families.”
