Katzie First Nation will be holding elections for chief and council on Feb. 27 this year.
The nation held a nomination meeting on Jan. 30 after which it was determined that a total of two candidates for the position of Chief, one of them being the current chief, and seven for the three council positions would be in the running.
The incumbent, Chief Grace George, had won the elections in 2018. During the 2020 elections, George won the election by acclamation, meaning she ran unopposed however, this time around, former chief Susan Miller will be once again running against George.

Miller had stepped in as Chief in October 2013, to replace Ed Pierre who had resigned earlier that year. She was acclaimed during the next year’s elections and won again in 2016. However, Miller lost to George during the 2018 elections.
For the three council positions, incumbent Lisa Adams, Alissa Bailey, Connie Bailey, incumbent Rick Bailey, Crystal-Lee Groves, David Kenworthy and Coleen Pierre will be running.
Presently, Rick Bailey, Lisa Adams and David Kenworthy are the councillors for the First Nation.
An all-candidates forum will be held on Feb. 17 at 6 p.m. at the Health and Community Centre. However the location might be changed and the event could be moved online if any public health restrictions come into effect before then, from the province.
