Man kicks Maple Ridge Mountie

Ridge Meadows RCMP were called about suspicious activity at the boat docks at the Katzie First Nation reserve

A 32-year-old man well-known to police faces multiple charges after a female officer was kicked during a pursuit in Pitt Meadows on Wednesday.

Ridge Meadows RCMP were called about suspicious activity at the boat docks at the Katzie First Nations reserve in South Bonson. Two men were seen loading property from a boat into a pickup truck.

An RCMP officer and Police Dog Services responded. The truck tried to flee through a residential area, but was blocked by the dog services truck. A suspected them tried to run away. During the foot chase, a female officer was kicked. She was not injured and the man was arrested.

He appeared in court on Thursday. Charges of   possession of stolen property, assaulting a peace officer, prohibited driving and others under the Motor Vehicle Act are being recommended.

The Maple Ridge/Pitt Meadows Bar Watch held an information session on public safety Wednesday afternoon at the South Bonson Recreation Centre.

A number of the Bar Watch participants from various licenced liquor establishments attended the meeting along with RCMP Consts.Mathew Condon and Mike Moore of Ridge Meadows RCMP, ICBC, B.C. Liquor inspectors, A Serving It Right representative, Pitt Meadows Fire Department and bylaw officers.

Items discussed included over consumption of liquor, drinking and driving and over crowding.
