Maple Ridge Mounties looking for January arson suspects

Around 4 a.m. on Jan. 6, two fires were discovered behind in the 22500-block of Lougheed Highway.

Ridge Meadows RCMP are looking for two men who started a fire in Maple Ridge that could have killed two people.

Around 4 a.m. on Jan. 6, two fires were discovered behind Pyrgos Taverna and Sports Traders, located in the 22500-block of Lougheed Highway.

The fires were spotted shortly after they were lit by a patrolling RCMP officer, who called the Maple Ridge Fire Department.

The quick discovery meant the fire did not destroy the businesses and was stopped from spreading into apartments above, where two people were asleep.

Two suspects, described as white men in their early 20s, were seen running west on the Lougheed Hwy., away from the fire.

One of these young men was taller with scruffy dark facial hair and long dark hair. He was wearing baggy clothing, possibly blue jeans and a dark red puffy jacket.

The other man was about 5-8 with short black hair, blue jeans and a blue jean jacket.
