Maple Ridge Oktoberfest a success for hospice

More than $42,000 raised for grief and loss support programs

Steins of beer were raised at this years Oktoberfest fundraiser for the Ridge Meadows Hospice Society.

This year 260 people donned Lederhosen or their dirndl dresses or simply came out to support the society on Friday, Oct. 18, at the Albion Community Centre.

"The event is still growing every year," said hospice society executive director Lindsey Willis, noting that this year was their largest turnout in the event's history.

And, she said, they raised more than their goal of $42,000, which will be going towards expanding the society's grief and loss support programs, including the child and youth program, explained Willis.

Online the society thanked everyone who made the evening a success, most notably Taryn Stephenson Thoews who was the emcee for the evening and Ryan, the live auctioneer.

"We couldn't offer an evening like this without the support of our community. You all help make it possible for us to offer no cost grief and loss programs for adults, youth, and children," posted the society.
