More RCMP officers will once again be patrolling Cultus Lake Park for the next several months as part of an annual agreement with the park board.

This year marks the the fifth year of the established Community Policing Agreement of 2019, signed by the Cultus Lake Park Board, City of Chilliwack and Chilliwack RCMP.

Dedicated RCMP officers will be stationed at the park from the May long weekend to the end of September long weekend, providing law enforcement coverage during the park’s busiest season.

These officers will be deployed from the Community Policing Office, located in the Visitor Services office at Cultus Lake Park.

This community policing will be in addition to the current RCMP boat patrols that are already in place in the park.

“This annual agreement is an integral part of keeping the Cultus Lake Park community safe and secure during the busy summer months,” a representative with Cultus Lake Park Board stated in a press release.

The agreement was signed in March of 2019.

“We heard from the Cultus Lake Park community that security around the Park is a priority,” said Joe Lamb in 2019, then-chair of the Cultus Lake Park Board. “As a result, the board and staff undertook an in-depth review of how we could do better in this area.”

A memorandum of understanding was signed as a result of that research, and RCMP officers have bee patrolling the park from May to September every year since.
