No charges are being recommended against Mounties who shot and killed a murder suspect in Maple Ridge last May.

Investigators with the Vancouver Police Major Crime Section have concluded that there is no evidence to support charges against any of the officers involved in shooting 26-year-old Angus Mitchell.

Police will not be forwarding a report to Crown Counsel.

"There was no officer that acted in a way that would support charges against any of them," said VPD Const. Brian Montague.

He explained that VPD investigators looked into whether or not the RCMP had the "legal authority" to use deadly force.

On May 30, Mitchell and his van were found on 216th Street near 132nd Avenue after he was the subject of a public warning by the RCMP following two previous shootings in Burnaby.

Police tried to talk Mitchell out of his car, but he would not cooperate.

Mitchell then shot at police, who returned fire and fatally wounded him.

He died after being rushed to hospital.

Mitchell was wanted by police for shooting his former landlord in Burnaby and was also a person of interest in the fatal shooting of two people in a Burnaby sushi restaurant.

Montague could not provide details about the type of weapon used by Mitchell or how many shots were fired, because of an upcoming coroner's inquest.

The review of the shooting has been provided to the coroner's office for an inquest that will examine the circumstances surrounding Mitchell's death.
