A new float plane service will begin shuttling people from Pitt Meadows to Victoria next week.

The Georgia Strait Connector, a division of Whistler Air, will fly into  Victoria harbour and downtown Vancouver, where passengers can connect to flights into Nanaimo, Comox, Sechelt, the Gulf Islands, Tofino and Whistler.

“People from Coquitlam, Surrey and the Fraser Valley will no longer have to travel to the downtown floatplane base to access these destinations” said Whistler Air president Mike Quinn.

“Residents from these regions can also avoid the hour long commute to downtown every day by using our affordable 10 minute express service."

The new service begins May 20, the same day an existing service between Langley and Victoria Harbour ends.

“Pitt Meadows Regional Airport is ideally suited to service the needs of these areas,” said airport manager Glenn Ralph. “With the new Golden Ears Bridge two kilometres from the airport, we are minutes from anywhere in the Fraser Valley”.

Whistler Air has been in business for 26 years, offering tours and charters in Whistler and scheduled service between Whistler and downtown Vancouver.

The company operates two DeHavilland Beavers and one DeHavilland Turbo Otter.

The Beaver seats six passengers while the Otter seats 12.

The cost of a flight from Pitt Meadows to Victoria is $146 per person, plus HST.
