A number of elementary and high schools in the district will have new principals and vice-principals to start the school year.
Administrative moves in the school district are typically triggered by retirements and other vacancies.
Alouette elementary principal Mel Roth accepted a principal position on Vancouver Island, Bruce Cunnings, principal at Edith McDermott elementary, accepted a director of instruction role in New Westminster, and Pitt Meadows elementary principal Stephanie Dand retired after 31 years with the school district.
At the secondary level, long-time administrator Mike Keenan retired, who had most recently been in the principal role at Pitt Meadows secondary.
“We value and appreciate the contributions of our outgoing administrators, and we thank them for enriching the experiences of our students and helping us build a strong and positive culture. We are also excited by the talented administrative teams we have in place for the 2018/19 school year and look forward to the leadership and unique perspectives they will bring to our school communities,” said School District 42 superintendent Sylvia Russell.
Albion elementary will have a new acting vice-principal, Mellisa Fuller.
Kevin Bodman, the principal at Hammond elementary last year, will be the principal at Alouette elementary.
Wes Reamsbottom, the vice-principal at Hammond elementary, is moving into the principal’s chair there, and Kyla Cameron will be the new vice-principal.
The former vice-principal of Harry Hooge elementary, Laura Brandon, will be taking over as principal of the school and Elena Digiovanni will become the new vice-principal.
Kristi Blakeway, who was principal of Westview secondary last year, will be principal of Laity View elementary.
Ian Liversidge, vice-principal at Maple Ridge secondary last year, will be taking over as principal of Garibaldi secondary. The new vice-principal at Maple Ridge secondary will be Cathryn Blanco.
Cheryl Schwarz, vice-principal at Pitt Meadows secondary, will be principal of the school this coming year.
Samuel Robertson Technical will have a new vice-principal, Michelle Allen.
Wayne Chow, vice-principal at Westview secondary, will be vice principal at Thomas Haney secondary this year.
Finally, Darren Rowell, principal at Garibaldi secondary last year, will be principal at Westview secondary, and Steve Kater, former vice-principal at Samuel Robertson will be vice principal at Westview.
