One dead in Pitt Lake plane crash

One person trapped inside the plane, Pitt Meadows fire department also responded to call.

One person is dead following a plane crash on Pitt Lake, north of Pitt Meadows, on Monday.

The Cessna 172 flipped over on the lake around 4:30 p.m. with two people aboard.

The Canadian Coast Guard hovercraft was dispatched to help Pitt Meadows fire department and RCMP with the rescue.

Police said one person on board the plane was rescued by a boater and was taken to hospital.

The second person was confirmed dead at the scene.

Cpl. Dave Ewert said police have just begun their investigation into what caused the small plane to crash.
