One person seriously injured in Sunday’s assault in Maple Ridge

‘Not an attempted robbery,’ confirms Ridge Meadows RCMP

An assault in the Valley Fair Mall vicinity, led to one person being seriously injured Sunday night.

According to Sergeant Kirby Adams of the RCMP, the police responded to an incident in the 22700-block of Lougheed Highway, at around 9:20 p.m., where two people were identified to be involved in an aggravated assault.

“Ridge Meadows RCMP confirm an aggravated assault which occurred last night around 9:20 PM near a local bank in the 22700 block of Lougheed Hwy. All parties have been identified and police confirm the two people involved are known to each other,” he said.

Adams also confirmed that the incident was not an attempted robbery.

During the assault, one man was transported to the hospital with serious injuries, however, Adams said that he was in stable condition.

The incident is currently under investigation and no additional information is available at this time.

Adams confirmed that investigators were on scene for most of the day on Monday, but have cleared the area.
