A pedestrian died after being struck by a vehicle in Maple Ridge Friday night.
Police responded to a call about a serious motor vehicle incident at around 8:15 p.m. on Oct. 25 in the 22100 block of Lougheed Highway, said the Ridge Meadows RCMP media department, and when they arrived on scene they saw that a person had been struck by a vehicle and had life-threatening injuries.
"BC Emergency Health Services (BC EHS) and Maple Ridge Fire Department (MRFD) attempted life-saving measures on one person, however they were eventually pronounced dead on scene," said the media department, noting that Lougheed Highway was shut down between 216 Street and 222 Street in the eastbound lanes and between 221 Street 222 Street in the westbound lanes.
The highway was reopened at around 12:30 a.m. on Oct. 26.
BC Emergency Health Services said they received a call at 8:09 p.m. on Oct. 25 regarding a motor vehicle incident involving a pedestrian.
Two ambulances with primary care paramedics responded to the scene, they said, however, no patients were transported to hospital.
Deputy chief Geoff Spriggs with Maple Ridge Fire and Rescue said they sent two trucks to the incident, and when firefighters arrived on scene they tended to a person on the ground who was in cardiac arrest.
They continued to assist paramedics when they arrived to help get the patient loaded into an ambulance and left the patient in the care of the BC EHS, he said.
Witnesses said police were detouring traffic off of Lougheed Highway as the road was closed at 216 Street and a photograph showed traffic cones across the highway at 222 Street.
