Pedestrian killed on Dewdney Trunk Road in Maple Ridge

Happened early Monday at 228th Street, police asking for witnesses.

An 86-year-old woman was killed crossing Dewdney Trunk Road in Maple Ridge early Monday.

The woman was crossing near 228th Street around 8:20 a.m. when hit by a car.

"Ridge Meadows RCMP, B.C. Ambulance Service, and Maple Ridge Fire Department attended and provided emergency first aid to the victim before she was rushed to hospital by ambulance," police said. "The medical intervention was unable to save the woman."

The driver of the car remained at the scene and is cooperating with police.

The Integrated Crash Analyst Reconstructionist Services  is assisting RCMP with the investigation.

Police say that the driver was making a left turn on an advance green arrow from Dewdney Trunk Rd. on to 228th St. when the accident happened.

Later that same day, at about 6:40 p.m., another pedestrian was struck, but uninjured, at the same intersection. This time, a man was hit while crossing 228th St. The female driver was given a traffic ticket.

Mounties are urging motorists and pedestrians to look carefully when proceeding through intersections.
