The City of Pitt Meadows has a new director to lead its operations and development department.

Cory Day will replace Kim Grout, who is now the city’s chief administrative officer.

Day has more than 20 years of experience working in municipal government both in Saskatchewan and the Lower Mainland, most recently with the City of Kamloops as its traffic and transportation engineer.

Having graduated in 1994 with a degree in civil engineering from the University of Saskatchewan, Day brings a fresh and systematic approach to the city’s largest department.

His technical skill set and direct experience with Metro Vancouver, TransLink and the Ministry of Transportation support council’s goals of improving transportation and infrastructure.

He believes one of the city’s strengths has been involving stakeholders and citizens directly in helping to plan, build, and deliver projects.

“I’m committing to continue fostering that strong level of public and staff engagement.”

Grout noted Day’s enthusiasm and engineering background will be helpful as the city moves forward with its long-term capital plan, as well as other transportation and infrastructure issues.

“We are a smaller municipality facing all the challenges of the larger cities, but with limited resources. Being able to wear various hats and bringing an engineering lens to the discussion will be helpful,” Grout added.

Day officially assumed his new role on July 2.

He is an active outdoorsman who is looking forward to trade his tie for a bike helmet to explore the natural beauty that Pitt Meadows has to offer.
