The City of Pitt Meadows will host several committee meetings away from city hall this year in an effort to attract more residents to attend.
Council would like to hold at least three sessions elsewhere, with proposals to host them at the high school and new seniors centre.
“We get the same three people time after time and it would be nice if we can reach out,” said Mayor Deb Walters, who promised to increase communication between city hall and its residents when she was elected.
“A priority of council is to engage with the public and I think we are doing a pretty good job of it.
“We are not always going to agree with each other, but certainly it’s important that we reach out and that people hear us and we hear them.”
Committee meetings are not televised and are held before council meetings, where decisions are formally approved.
Walters says committee meetings are a more relaxed setting.
“I feel it’s more interesting because that’s where all the debate takes place,” she added.
Dates for the off-site meetings have yet to be finalized.
