Pitt Meadows hockey fans left in dark

Power restored after 10 hours, scrubbing playoff viewing plans

The Sedin Twins weren’t the only ones suffering through a power outage on Friday night.

Residents of Pitt Meadows lost their B.C. Hydro service just as the Vancouver Canucks’ playoff game against the San Jose Sharks was to begin.

Fortunately for two Pitt Meadows watering holes, the power stayed on at Samz Pub and the Jolly Coachman, and they picked up some extra patrons coming in for dinner and the game.

Hydro reports that at 5:42 p.m. there were 2,757 customers without service in an area south of the Lougheed Highway, west of 193 A Street and east of McTavish Road.

Then at 10:30 p.m. the lights went out for another 2,016 customers in an area east of Broadway Street, north of Fraser Dyke Road and South of Prairie Avenue.

Equipment failure was cited as the cause in each case, and power to both areas was restored on Saturday morning at 5 a.m.
