The library in Pitt Meadows will feature both new and old.Wood from the Park family barn will be used on columns in the main area and wood carvings will grace its walls.Already under construction near city hall, the bigger and brighter library will occupy the first of three towers of Solaris at Meadows Gate, a development by RG Properties at the corner of Harris and Ford roads. The relocation will allow the library to almost double in size, to 12,200 square feet from 7,500.Once complete, the library will have a computer lab, study area, children and teen areas, a space with seating that allows patrons to take in the view from the corner of Harris and Ford roads, and a multi-purpose meeting room. The new location will also have self-serve check-out stations, helpful for people who need to borrow stuff in a hurry.Shown to council on Tuesday, the library’s design and layout was created with input from the public, council, architects and staff. The current library building will be used for other municipal needs.Seeking sister The City of Pitt Meadows could soon have a sibling.Council directed staff on Tuesday to begin discussions with the Korea Veterans Association and form a committee to define the goals and purpose of being a sister city to Gapyeung-gun.Located in Gyeonggi Province, South Korea,  Gapyeong was the scene of the Battle of Kapyong, a major clash during the Korean War.The Korea Veterans Association pitched the idea to council in November to recognize the contribution of Canadian Armed Forces during the Korea war.Gapyeong already has two sister cities – Gangnam-gu, South Korea and Cedar City, Utah. It will be the first time Pitt Meadows has twinned with another city.It currently remains one of nine municipalities in Metro Vancouver that does not have a sister or twinning relationship with another city. The others include Delta, North Vancouver, Anmore, Bowen Island, Langley City, Lions Bay, Port Coquitlam, and West Vancouver.New Westminster and Vancouver have the most sister cities, at five each.Cinema signsThe owners of Meadowvale Mall are looking to install three new signs on its revamped cinema.Hollywood 3 Cinemas, which opened its doors last year, will have neon signs with a distinctly retro feel. The signs will be placed above the main entrance to the theatre, on the eastern face of the building that overlooks Harris Road and vertical sign will be installed on top.
