Cramped community policing office space in Pitt Meadows will no longer be a problem as of Sept. 6.

That is the official opening date for the new space that has been under renovations for months.

The 1,480-square-foot current office space, located in Pitt Meadows Family Recreation Centre, is shared by two constables per watch, an office manager, volunteers and other general duty or specialized team officers.

The new space, a $1.4 million city-approved project, will be expanded to 2,100 sq. ft. and allow for interview rooms, Breathalyzer tests to be conducted, and more room for volunteers to assist with inquiries that include questions about Block Watch and child identification kits.

“The expansion of the office means fewer trips back to the main detachment office for things like interviews, phone calls to legal services, and obtaining breath samples from drivers suspected of being impaired,” says Operations Officer Inspector Dan Splinter.

“It also provides all of our Pitt Meadows members more space to do their work, start their shift, or even have lunch.”

The new office will be wheelchair accessible and in the same location as before at 12027 Harris Road, Unit No. 104.

Hours of operation will also be the same from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday to Friday and 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday.

Additional staff members will be working in the office, including an additional RCMP officer.

Ridge Meadows RCMP have indicated public tours will be held on opening day, and RCMP members, dressed in both red serge and working uniforms, will be on hand for any questions from the public.

“All members at Ridge Meadows RCMP look forward to moving in and our grand opening on Saturday, September 6,” Splinter adds.

Further details about opening day will be provided in the upcoming weeks.
