Firefighters and paramedics attend a crash on Abernethy Way on Wednesday.

Ridge Meadows RCMP have arrested a 43-year-old man and are recommending he be charged with assault.

The arrest stems from an alleged assault in the Tim Horton’s restaurant at 11811 – 224 Street around 1 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 21.

The manager reported being punched by a customer after informing the man he was not going to be served due to past unacceptable behaviours towards other staff members.

The investigation included a surveillance video that depicted the incident, and resulted in the suspect being identified by a Ridge Meadows RCMP officer.

The suspect does not frequent the town centre regularly, but according to police does reside locally.

“Police place a high priority on reports of any violent act,”said Cpl. Alanna Dunlop.

“The fact the incident occurred in the victim’s work place made this incident even more unacceptable.  Investigators worked continuously collecting evidence, and concerted efforts were made to identify the suspect. Even though the suspect had visited the restaurant in the past, employees did not know the man’s identity.”

Investigators are now preparing a report and will be forwarding that to Crown Counsel, recommending assault charges.

Pending his court appearance, the suspect was released on conditions.
