Ridge Meadows RCMP are investigating Friday night’s massive fire in downtown Maple Ridge, and are looking for video surveillance, dash cam footage, and witnesses from the area.
The fire on June 9 destroyed a five-storey apartment building that was under construction, and Maple Ridge Fire Chief Michael Van Dop said the Edge 3 development is the building where the fire originated.
He did not want to say the fire is suspicious in nature as of Monday afternoon.
Due to the intensity of the fire, it spread to neighbouring buildings. The new building had no fire breaks or exterior cladding to slow the fire, and the sprinkler system had not been installed.
Two neighbouring single-family homes also burned, and there was major damage to the Edge on Edge 2 building just north of the new condos.

Police said at approximately 11:45 p.m., they were notified by Maple Ridge Fire Department (MRFD) of the fire at the construction site in the 22500 block of Brown Avenue. The fire is currently under investigation by the Ridge Meadows RCMP with support from the MRFD.
Van Dop confirmed there were security cameras in the building under construction, and investigators will use all information available to them in determining the cause of the fire.
Police are still seeking witnesses, video surveillance or dash cam footage from the area. Anyone with information for police is asked to contact the Ridge Meadows RCMP at 604-463-6251.
