Police looking for witnesses to suspicious fire in Maple Ridge

Ridge Meadows RCMP are looking for witnesses who may have seen someone leaving the scene of a suspicious fire in Maple Ridge, either by foot or vehicle. On Monday, around 3 a.m., the Maple Ridge Fire Department and Ridge Meadows RCMP were called to a building fire that had been deliberately set in the 11100-block of Creekside Road. The fire was easily contained, no injuries were reported and no other nearby structures were damaged.

Drugs seized

A 20-year-old Maple Ridge man could face charges for possessing controlled substances for the purpose of trafficking. Shortly after 2 p.m. on Saturday, Ridge Meadows RCMP officers pulled over the suspect’s car on Thorne Ave in Maple Ridge. A search of the vehicle resulted in police seizing roughly 29 grams of cocaine, crack cocaine and heroin. The man has been released from but will appear in court in November.

Window broken

Two young men from Mission were arrested by Ridge Meadows RCMP for damaging the M & M Meats store after an altercation with one another in the early morning of Saturday Aug. 6. Police arrived to the business just after 2 a.m. where they found the two suspects standing in front of a broken store window.

A 20 year-old man was held in custody until he was sober. The 18-year-old man was taken to hospital for medical treatment.

Car crash

A 30-year-old Maple Ridge woman has been charged with following too closely after a two vehicle crash took place around 4:20 p.m. in the 22000-block of Lougheed Highway Friday. Neither driver was injured but a 1988 Chevrolet pickup truck and a 2007 Ford Focus were extensively damaged and had to be towed.
