A B.C. Hydro crew is now on site in the alley behind the Tim Hortons at 224th Street and Lougheed Highway where a transformer blew earlier Sunday afternoon.

The call came in at 12:30 p.m. as a loud explosion at the Tim Hortons.

There were at least two calls to the fire department with people stuck in elevators.

Businesses in the area are without power.

The power at Haney Place Mall was out for 25 minutes but power there has since been restored.

It is unknown at this time why the transformer blew.

B.C. Hydro estimates that 1590 customers have been affected by the outage.

Power is expected to be fully restored to the area by 6 p.m.
