The RCMP’s street enforcement unit executed a search warrant at a house on St. Anne Avenue

One of the three houses on St. Anne Avenue that have been the subject of a Maple Ridge councillor’s complaints, soon will be no more.

Coun. Cheryl Ashlie has been calling for early demolition of two of the homes at the corner of 223rd Street.

The property is slated for redevelopment into an apartment building, along with the renovation and conversion of the historic house on the corner into a duplex.

Ashlie wanted the other two homes to be torn down at the start of the development process rather than the end, so the old buildings don’t attract crime.

The third house, which is set for the heritage renovation, has been raided by police with people arrested and drugs seized.

Ashlie said staff told council Tuesday that the landlord is seeking demolition on the middle lot.

“They [the owners] heard our concerns and they responded.

“I want that downtown cleaned up and I want people seeing all that stuff cleaned up.”
