Ridge Meadows RCMP are concerned about an increase in crime in the downtown area following a cell phone theft on Wednesday.
Two men approached another at the corner of Lougheed Highway and 224th Street just before 8 p.m. Wednesday.
The first two offered to sell a cellular phone to a man standing at the corner. He informed them that he already had one and displayed it.
The two men then took the phone and ran away.
The first suspect is 5’8’’, a white male with short blond hair and blue eyes. He is “overweight” and wore black sweatpants, a hooded sweatshirt and a T-shirt.
The second suspect is also a white male, 6’3’’ with a medium build and in his 40s. He was wearing dark coloured khaki pants, a light coloured T-shirt, and a red nylon jacket. He was carrying a black nylon grocery bag.
“Ridge Meadows RCMP are aware that there are increased community concerns in the downtown core,” Dunlop said. “Our crime analysis shows there has been an increase in calls for service in this area, even with violent crime rates improving over the past several years.”
She added police are committed to continuing with its crime reduction strategies, which are aimed at reducing both violent and property crimes.
