A forward line of local realtors has pitched in to make sure Maple Ridge can celebrate the Canucks, together.

Mike and Dick Huber and Scott Meadus of MacDonald Realty have rented out Maple Ridge’s ACT Theatre this Saturday for Game 2 of the Stanley Cup Finals, featuring the Vancouver Canucks and Boston Bruins.

Mike Huber, also a local school trustee, said he was disappointed to read in that there wasn’t being anything done locally for the Canucks games like during the Olympics, when the ACT carried the broadcast of Team Canada’s gold medal win over the USA.

“That was fantastic, there was something like 490 people there for that,” he said. “I was complaining that there wasn’t anything happening for the Canucks’ games, and someone said to do something about it, so we did.”

The theatre can hold 500 people, and the game will be shown on a giant projection screen. Doors will open at 4 p.m. on Saturday and admission is free with a donation of a non-perishable food item, or cash donation, to the Friends in Need Food Bank.

Huber said the venue is already booked for the remaining Canucks games, but they are looking at possibly renting out the ACT’s smaller studio space for future games.

“I hope this will bring the community together,” said Huber. “It’s the least we could do.”

Vancouver is setting up two giant screens downtown for each playoff game between the Vancouver Canucks take on the Boston Bruins.

Nanaimo also has the playoffs on a big screen in Diana Krall Plaza, while Surrey has a big screen at Central City near 102nd Avenue and King George Boulevard.

Abbotsford is having some of the games in the Abbotsford Entertainment and Sports Centre, home of the Calgary Flames farm team, the Abbotsford Heat.

Pitt Meadows will not have public screens for the games.
