Ridge Meadows Recycling Society is bringing back the Repair Café event this month.
Last year in October, the event was held after a pandemic-related break but was a one-off.
”We held a test Café back in October to make sure everything would go well and it was a great success. Everyone was very happy to see each other for the first time in 20 months and get back to fixing and helping the community. We could see so many smiling faces behind the masks!” said Leanne Koehn of the society.
The upcoming event will be held at the Maple Ridge Seniors’ Activity Center on Feb. 19.
“So far Public Health Orders have not changed, and it looks like another go-ahead for our February 19th Cafe! We’ve had lots of people asking when our next Repair Café is, so I hope they are able to come to this one!” she said.
Port Coquitlam held an in-person Repair Café at the beginning of this month, so others are also rolling their in-person events back up, said Koehn, adding that at the moment, there are over 2,200 Repair Cafes worldwide.
“It is very exciting to be part of such a positive, worldwide movement,” she said.
The society has also booked the seniors’ centre for another Repair Café on Mar. 26, same day as Earth Hour, and another one on Apr. 23 as part of the Celebrate Earth Day festivities on the Bandstand at Memorial Peace Park.
