The Ridge Meadows Minor Softball Association will have to do some unexpected fundraising after the large tent canopies which the club keeps at Telosky Stadium were stolen over the weekend.

It’s the fifth time the storage container at the ball diamonds near Thomas Haney secondary have been broken into this year, says the club’s Facebook page.

“This time, it represents a substantial loss to all members of our association as we have had many of our canopies stolen.”

Association president Rob Hartford said the thieves broke into a container, then broke through a plywood-and-steel-stud wall to get to the tents or banners.

“So it took some work to get it done, for sure.

The canopies, worth about$500 each, are about four-by-four metres and are either blue or red. The red ones have the Ridge Meadows name on them.

They’re used for everything from fundraisers to tournaments, says the softball association. The four previous break-ins, the thieves didn’t manage to get past the second wall.

“We just have to keep replacing locks and walls.”

He’s not sure how the club will replace the banners.
