Ridge RCMP arrest man after chase in Pitt Meadows

Ridge Meadows RCMP arrested a 28-year-old man Tuesday after a chase in Pitt Meadows that involved a helicopter.

A pickup truck was reported stolen, then seen near Old Dewdney Trunk and Kennedy roads later in the day.

The truck drove away as police arrived, but was located nearby.

A foot pursuit ensued, according to police.

The Air One police helicopter and a member of the regional integrated police dog services were in the area and spotted the suspect running through a field.

"The flight officer in the helicopter was able to relay the direction he was travelling, and as a result, he ran to the waiting arms of police where he was quickly taken into custody,” said Cpl. Brenda Winpenny,

Andrew Wright appeared in provincial court on Wednesday, April 13, and remanded in custody. RCMP have forwarded charges of possession of stolen property and failing to obey conditions of his probation order. He is currently before the courts on three charges, police said, and his criminal history dates back to 2005. He was most recently was arrested by Ridge Meadows RCMP on March 24.
