RCMP locate ‘armed and dangerous’ man in Burnaby after ‘inadvertent release’

47-year-old Dean Richard Zastowny, who police said may have been armed, was wanted by Surrey RCMP

Burnaby RCMP says a man who was “inadvertently released from custody late last week” has been located and arrested after a “quick, co-ordinated response.”

Surrey RCMP issued a news release on Sunday, asking for the public’s help in locating 47-year-old Dean Richard Zastowny.

He was considered “armed and dangerous,” said police.

Burnaby RCMP say he was located on Tuesday, Dec. 5 shortly after 10 p.m. after police responded to a bank robbery in the 4100-block of North Road in Burnaby.

Although the suspect had fled, police say a description of the suspect was shared with partner agencies.

Zastowny was located and arrested by Metro Vancouver Transit Police at Lougheed SkyTrain station, says Burnaby RCMP.

“A quick response and coordination between partner agencies played a significant role in affecting this arrest. Prolific offenders often move between multiple jurisdictions and therefore sharing information is essential,” said Corporal Daniela Panesar, spokesperson for the Burnaby RCMP.

Zastowny was described by police as a Caucasian man who’s 6’1” and 215 pounds. He has blue eyes and brown hair with fair skin.

The individual has a number of tattoos, including a full sleeve on his right arm. On his right forearm, he has a skull, snake and flames, with more skulls on his right upper arm. He also has a skull and faces on his left forearm.

Zastowny also has tattoos on his upper back and torso.
