Maple Ridge-based cannabis producer Tantalus Labs announced it has received a licence to sell medical marijuana, issued by Health Canada under the Access to Cannabis for Medical Purposes Regulations (ACMPR).

“The acquisition of this licence marks a significant milestone for the company,” said a press release. “Tantalus Labs will begin shipping cannabis products from their high-efficiency facility, called SunLab, in the coming weeks.”

Tantalus will enter cannabis sales with five cannabis strains, dubbed the “Tantalus Range,” which ranging from high THC to high CBD. More information on these products is available on their website

Sales registration has begun for early supporters of the company, and will open to all residents of Canada on a first-come, first-served basis.

“This moment marks the accumulation of five years of design and development at our unique facility, SunLab,” said Dan Sutton, Tantalus Labs CEO. “The vision of delivering world-class Sungrown cannabis to Canadians has come to fruition.”

The company has a 75,000 square foot greenhouse operation on 272nd Street, and first started growing product last summer.

It’s Whonnock neighbours have complained about light pollution, smell and fears the facility will impact their groundwater.

The company touts SunLab’s purpose-built, specialized greenhouses which utilize sunlight for the plant’s primary photosynthetic input, rather than solely relying on artificial lighting. This reduces electricity demand by up to 90 per cent, compared to historical illicit-market practices.

“Designing and building the first cannabis-tailored greenhouse of its kind in North America, Tantalus Labs is committed to developing environmentally sustainable best practices for cannabis cultivation,” it says.
